Brisbane, Queensland, Australia – 27 October 2017 One of Australia’s leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing companies, Luina Bio, is today pleased to announce it has received a $405,000 “Made in Queensland” (MIQ) grant from the Queensland Government.

The MIQ program is an important initiative within the Queensland Government’s $200 million Jobs and Regional Growth Package announced on 13 December 2016 and complements the Queensland Government’s Advanced Manufacturing 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan released on 14 December 2016.

MIQ is a state-wide program that will provide $20 million in grant funding to support Queensland small and medium enterprises in to become more internationally competitive, adopt innovative process and technologies and to support job creation.

The MIQ program is a ‘match funding’ grant, meaning that Luina Bio will also contribute $405,000 towards the costs of the new equipment, development and benchmarking activities.

The announcement of the MIQ grant was made by the Queensland Government during a breakfast seminar at the 2017 Ausbiotech Conference in Adelaide this morning.

Mr Les Tillack, Luina Bio’s CEO, said, “This is a great opportunity for Luina Bio to continue its growth as a major player in the biopharmaceutical world, both in Australia and further afield.”

“The grant will help us to acquire and install specialised biopharmaceutical manufacturing equipment along with additional auxiliary equipment to support and enable extra advanced manufacturing. In addition to essential new equipment, the grant will also enable five members of the firm’s senior management team to attend a leadership development program.” Mr Tillack said.

Mr Chris Burrell, Luina Bio’s Executive Chairman, said “The MIQ grant will help us to undertake an international competitive market analysis assessment of the global biopharmaceutical industry in recombinant protein expression, microbiome anaerobe fermentation, sterile fill and finish, and non-cGMP development. This will enable us to then explore further expansion possibilities.”

“More importantly, the grant will support the creation of 15 new advanced manufacturing jobs at our facility in Darra, Queensland” Mr Burrell said.

Ends.
